About this deal

Try use different voices and accents for the different characters– this is fun for them but will also help them to understand which character is speaking. Although Tyrannosaurus Drip is another good work by Julia Donaldson I found that it didn't quite reach the same level as some of her other picture books. It's probably because she's written some fantastic prose in her other picture books, like The Highway Rat, that I found the mechanics of the prose a little disjointed at times. An example of this is the songs that either dinosaur family sing in the beginning of the book doesn't really continue or evolve through to the end - it's sort of left behind as an idea as the story moves along. If you would like to learn more about dinosaurs there are loads of great resources online which are child friendly and fee. Try the following: Wonderfully characterised and atmospheric illustrations complement humorous rhyming text in a story that will appeal to young dinosaur-lovers. Ideal for reading to groups as plenty of repetition will encourage youngsters to join in.

Our suspicions that a dinosaur was on the school premises was confirmed when Miss Cochrane showed us a picture of a T-rex outside school! It related brilliant to our topic in science which was what animals eat. This story emphasises the herbivore & carnivore descriptions. We had amazing questioning to do with this. Get three bowls or trays and get your child to put all the small dinosaurs in one bowl. the medium ones in another and the large ones in another. This week Miss Cochrane has introduced us to a new story called Tyrannosaurus Drip. The book is about two different groups of dinosaurs and the main character is poor Tyrannosaurus Drip. We have all enjoyed listening to this story and getting to know the different characters, good and bad! Using the pictures in the book or model dinosaurs children could tell the story in their own words. Watch a video Watch Julia Donaldson and her husband Malcolm singing a song about Tyrannosaurus Drip here Things to make and do Play the story As always there are many things you can do when reading books with your little ones to help them enjoy and learn from the experience. urn:lcp:tyrannosaurusdri0000dona:epub:1acba4ff-a3e5-48d7-9040-a267fc36a5ff Foldoutcount 0 Identifier tyrannosaurusdri0000dona Identifier-ark ark:/13960/t92897g5n Invoice 1652 Isbn 9780330532532 I had expected something totally different from this book. I can't say what, as that would spoil the book, and for such a short review I don't feel like spoiler-tagging stuff. I was hoping for one ending, but I got a totally weird and not even close to what I wanted ending. An ending I didn't see coming.

Julia Donaldson is one of today's most popular writers. Her bestselling titles include The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo's Child and Room on the Broom. Although she is best-known for her picture books, Julia also writes longer novels, plays and songs. She lives in Glasgow and spends a lot of time on stage performing her brilliant sell-out singalong shows! Great hub and great choice of book. Even if I didn't read it yet, I remember that when I was a teacher, the young children had quite a fascination with those big animals! And you are right... reading gives the opportunity to ask questions to children and to engage them further! I studied Drama and French at Bristol University, where I met Malcolm, a guitar-playing medic to whom I’m now married. Interesting story to use in a class. Would be fun to work on in a playful way with children, as well as a good discussion for themes of family, friends, fitting in and getting along. Thanks Teaches- I think the book and author are more popular in the UK but she wrote the Gruffalo which I suspect you guys have over there by now As you re read the book encourage children to join in with the refrains such as ‘Up with rivers! Down with water!’ And ‘SPLASH!’ Talk about the story Many children’s books make great stimulus for philosophical discussion. Don’t be put off by the notion of philosophy– kids are natural philosophers always asking why. Below are some of the “Big Questions” That arise from the book. We turned the narrative poem (The Spider and the Fly) into a playscript, by setting it out correctly and adding detailed stage directions. We then acted them out in assembly, for Years 5 and 6. Our trip to the World museum will take place on Wednesday 21st January. We believe this will be a great opportunity for us to learn more about dinosaurs.

Before Malcolm and I had our three sons we used to go busking together and I would write special songs for each country; the best one was in Italian about pasta.

A rhyming text with a memorable refrain, along with a gentle anti-war message and bold, appealing illustrations, will make this book a welcome addition to any child's library. Tyrannosaurus Drip is a fantastic rhyming adventure story from Julia Donaldson, bestselling author of The Gruffalo, with wonderfully funny illustrations from award-winning illustrator David Roberts. This roar-tastic book all about celebrating difference is sure to become a firm favourite with young dinosaur fans.

I grew up in a tall Victorian London house with my parents, grandmother, aunt, uncle, younger sister Mary and cat Geoffrey (who was really a prince in disguise. Mary and I would argue about which of us would marry him). The rhyme scheme of the poem is engaging and the illustrations by David Roberts are really interesting and different from many others of Donaldson’s books, but I nevertheless found the book charming and delightful without being preachy.Assign everyone a role as one of the characters. See if your children can act out the story from memory. If not read a bit at a time and then act it out. The Big Question How important is it to fit in? Big Questions A brilliantly funny story all about celebrating difference, from the stellar picture-book partnership of Julia Donaldson and David Roberts – perfect for young dinosaur fans everywhere! Tyrannosaurus Drip, Julia Donaldson and David Roberts’s brilliantly funny story about celebrating difference, is much-loved by little dinosaur fans everywhere. If your little one loves this fantastic rhyming adventure story, or just can’t get enough of dinosaurs, they’ll have fun with these Tyrannosaurus Drip kids activity sheets perfect for 4-6 year olds. We have more great ideas for indoor activities for kids here. I really enjoy writing verse, even though it can be fiendishly difficult. I used to memorise poems as a child and it means a lot to me when parents tell me their child can recite one of my books. This was the first of my books that David Roberts illustrated, and we had a memorable launch in the Natural History Museum, presided over by a gigantic dinosaur skeleton.
