To be honest, we thought this rope caulk was a good deal, but only for some applications. It was very difficult to make it look smooth, so it wouldn’t be ideal for anywhere that would be easily visible. Also, ripping off decent lengths of caulk was a bit frustrating as it came off in smaller chunks. However, we really did like how easy it was to remove, which would make it an excellent choice for winterization. Sanding caulk can spoil the surface, and while this isn’t so evident on sanded caulk, it can still ruin the look of your finished job. Now, you might be thinking to yourself, “is caulk just silicone?” and if you have, you’d be forgiven. Caulk and silicone are very similar, but they are not the same thing. Funny enough, caulk has silicone in it, but there are a number of other elements that make it an entirely unique substance. If you’re wondering what the key difference between silicone and caulk is, it’s in its elasticity. While similar in appearance and finish, silicone is definitely not designed to be painted while the decorators caulk, sometimes known as 'painters' caulk', is.
